The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick of Hawaii

Irish love sprouts from Hawaiian roots

The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of Hawaii was established for benevolent and charitable purposes. In fulfilling this mission, the Society awards scholarships to graduating seniors in Hawaii and to Irish students at University College in Dublin.

The scholarships are open to all Hawaii seniors based on scholastic achievements, financial need, and contribution to the community (including campus and service activities, and after-school and summer employment experience.) The awards are without regard to sex, race, color, creed, or religion.

The Friendly Sons are presently assisting two Irish students in Dublin and three Hawaii students at their chosen colleges, including one at the University of Hawaii.

The Hawaii scholarships are granted by the Friendly Sons to foster education and to cultivate interest in, and knowledge of, the history, folklore and customs of Ireland and its people. Each awardee must take one full credit course in the humanities which includes Irish history, literature, or culture.

The scholarships program is supported by membership dues, contributions, fund raisers, and receipts from advertisements in the Emerald Ball program booklet.
